  1. Welcome to the ‘verse

  2. Oh, don’t get me started! The quality of Firefly is amazing. There are many moments and details in the show that, when I watch it again for something like the 50th time make me think, again, “Wow… this is really the greatest TV show ever!”

People who don’t understand the reason for the “western” aspects of Firefly greatly annoy me. In one episode, I can’t remember the exact quote, someone said something to the effect that after some of the moons and planets were terraformed, colonists were dumped on them with a minimum of survival gear and left to fend for themselves. Of course they’re going to have a more primitive lifestyle. Okay so that doesn’t necessarily mean “western”. They could live like medieval Europeans but western is more fun and it’s not at all implausible.

  3. While I’ve never quite understood the intense loyalty displayed by Firefly’s hardcore fans — there were only 14 episodes, people, less than a complete season even! — I do find it remarkably well developed and satisfying viewing, especially considering that it was so short-lived. As you say, astonishing. It’s going to stand for a long time as the tragic textbook example of a series with great potential that never had a chance. (My pet theory — which may be common knowledge among those who are more into this particular franchise than myself — is that the movie Serenity is a massively condensed version of the overall story arc we would’ve seen in season two, had there been one. Would’ve been a great year of TV…)

The thing I don’t get about Fox and its notorious skittishness toward sci-fi and fantasy series is, why do they even greenlight them to begin with if they have so little confidence and/or interest in them? Why not say up front “meh, it’s not really our thing, try one of the other networks down the street?”

  4. hear, hear! we really enjoyed watching Firefly and Serenity after the fact

  5. Mmmmm… Saffron, Keylee, drool…

Uh, sorry. Damn, I friggin loved that show.

  6. Welcome!

If you do a quick search of the web, you’ll see there’s much more of the ‘Verse out there!

  7. It appears I found your post rather late, but I had to put my two sence in…
From my understanding of things, Serenity got a great deal of funding from the fans. I've heard they're fundraising for a second movie. There's also a mini protest in the works. Every Firefly fan that can be found is asked to send a pair of blue gloves and a note card stating "you can't stop the signal" to Universal Studios on September 20, 2010 in another attempt to bring the series back. (I guess it worked for Jericho, so it's worth a shot!) Check out bluegloveassault.webs.com for the full scoop.

P.S. I love the Western theme, I never thought to compare Mal to Solo, and Jos is a bastard for what he did to Wash and Book. Why can't anybody in your shows ever be happy, Jos? Why? Sleep with one eye open, Kaylee and Simon, because he's coming after you next!!
