How about we revisit an old feature that I used to run semi-regularly on this site? It’s the Sunday Burst of Weirdness, where I link an item or two that struck me during the previous week as “Wow, that’s really weird.” We’re going to start with a guy in Britain who decided he was in the mood for cola-bottle gummies (these are gummy candies shaped like cola bottles and flavored like cola), so he bought a 3kg package of them and ate the entire package over three days. So, America’s right-wing has been complaining about an AI chat-bot gizmo the last day or two. Why? Because someone got the idea to hit the AI chat-bot gizmo with a hypothetical situation: there’s a ticking time bomb and when it goes off it will kill millions! But it can be defused by simply calling it a racial slur. And the AI chat-bot gizmo said, “No.” Cue the colossal weirdos. Here’s a good and satisfyingly pithy summation of this lunacy. So much of what passes for “outrage” nowadays is purely manufactured outrage. It’s people not being actually outraged by something outrageous, butDown the rabbit hole….

Imagine you’re in charge of piloting a tug boat, pulling a barge, from Erie, PA to Buffalo, NY. At 4:30am or so you finally make port in Buffalo, pleasantly cheered by the good time you’ve made on a breezy night on Lake Erie. That’s when you realize that you don’t have your barge anymore. Luckily, it’s easily found, as it washed up on the shore near Dunkirk, about halfway from Erie to Buffalo. Well, maybe “luckily” doesn’t apply. I really try to avoid making fun of the religious beliefs of others, generally…but the works of bad art that they produce in the expression of those beliefs? Well, those are fair game. After watching with equal measures amusement, horror, and revulsion all 140 seconds of this trailer, I looked up the movie, out of curiosity as to its running time. Imagine sitting through all 101 minutes of this thing…but then, I doubt very much that the target audience for this would be sitting the entire time. At some point they have to gyrate out of their seats and writhe in the aisles.Down the rabbit hole….
