Three screens of awesome!

I popped over to the FSM message boards just to see what was going on, and someone posted this slice of nostalgia:

How cool is that! I assume that the Charlie Brown movie is Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown, which I see was released less than two weeks after Star Wars in 1977. I’ve never seen that one, but still — that’s a pretty impressive slate at the theater, isn’t it?

Make it stop.

Oh my God…the “Birthers” are so insane that Ann Coulter has called for them to shut up? We’ve managed to find a group on the right that is so far out there in Cuckoo-land that Ann F***ing Coulter thinks they’re too loony to encourage?

Wow. That is some serious, serious crazy.

Links….

:: And remember this above all: the Republican making-shit-up industry is still the world’s finest.

:: Being an adult who never completely grew up is so much more fun than being an actual kid.

:: I am Praying for your soul, as only a truly evil person would put Diet Coke in the Cherry Coke dispenser.

:: 3:57pm: Nap nixed. Went to driving range and supervised. Gave no free advice. Contemplated plaid shorts vs. khakis. Plaid wins.

:: We decided we’d prefer to save a few bucks every quarter than be responsible for our poorest and most helpless fellow Americans, and guess what? That decision has come back to bite us.

:: What do we mean when we say historical fantasy?

:: My work on The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films has defined my creative life for many years. I began the work shortly after grad school, literally from my bedroom in my parents’ house. As I’ve intimated, I may look at a non-Tolkien property before the heavy lifting on The Hobbit really sets in, but in many ways I feel like I’m not going to break stride at all. Middle-earth is going to continue to be my creative home — our creative home — for years to come.

More next week.

Sunday Burst of Weirdness

Oddities abound! (Not so many as usual, due to less time spent online this week, but still.)

:: Searching for something else, I happened upon this: guys in Norway who put on a suit that has webbing between the legs and between the arms and torso. So attired, you leap from a cliff and spread your arms and legs wide, thus allowing all that extra fabric around your body to fill with air, allowing you to “fly”. Of course there’s video!

That’s…psychotic. Wow.

:: After my posting the other day about the kayaker who set the new record for waterfall-running, I checked out some other videos on YouTube of some extreme kayakers at work. Here’s one in which I guy runs a not-particularly-high waterfall that doesn’t drop straight down, so you might not think it’s all that impressive, but he commits one massive error, for some reason I can’t fathom: he tosses his paddle aside as he goes over the brink. The result is nearly fatal:

That’s about all. More next week….
