Something for Thursday

We’re on the eve of the Winter Olympics, one of my favorite things in the world (the Salt Lake City Games were in progress when I launched this blog, way back when), so here’s a bit of Olympic history: Brian Boitano’s gold-medal winning free skate in Calgary in 1988.

  1. No, he wasn't. But six years later, Elvis Stojko sure as hell was. Alexei Urmanov? Huh?!

  2. Elvis lost because his more – for lack of a better word, macho skating just wasn't in style. I thought he was robbed, too.

    (And I can't believe I'm writing about ice skating, which I never would be watching save for significant others.)
