Agree with everything Roger said. I'd also be fine with the penny going away. The only problem I foresee is finding $0.51 souvenirs for the kid at museums, aquariums, zoos, and other points of interest.
Up here in the Great White North we have both a one dollar and two dollar coin, as well as no more pennies. Last I checked the world hasn't ended.
