He WHAT?!

That Antiques Roadshow program just came on PBS this afternoon, and I remembered a particularly odd thing I caught when I had it on a week or two ago. I wasn’t paying much attention, but a guy was having his comic books appraised. It seems he had copies of Fantastic Four #1, Incredible Hulk #1, and other really impressive items. Like I said, I wasn’t really paying attention until the appraiser dude shook his head ruefully, gave a number, and said words that had the comics geek in me shrieking in agony:

“They’d be worth a lot more if you hadn’t had them shellacked.”

AIEEE!!!
