Some short hits on stuff I’m seeing today: :: Hayao Miyazaki’s new film is announced. The tale apparently involves a goldfish Princess who wants to become human. Here’s hoping, because I’ve always loathed The Little Mermaid. :: Turkish Star Wars. I have absolutely no idea what this is all about. (Fairly long video, but if you watch the first minute or so, you get the idea.) :: I don’t know how much of an influence I was in Jennifer‘s decision to make this purchase, but I can’t help but feel a little proud! :: Tokyo’s long nightmare is over. This week has been a blend of busy and not-feeling-like-posting. So I haven’t been posting. Will that continue? Who knows? Anyway, a few thoughts on various stuff: :: Watched Raines last night, and I had one of those cases where I read a lot of middling-to-negative reviews of a thing, watch it, and wonder if they watched the same thing I did. I found Raines very enjoyable; Jeff Goldblum delivered a fairly understated performance (as compared to, say, Jurassic Park, in which he hammed it up) as Detective Raines, who has conversations with the murder victims whose murders he isDown the rabbit hole….

I mentioned a while back that The Wife and I decided to use some Christmas money to strike one item from our long-term wish list: the KitchenAid mixer. So far we’ve used it a number of times, and it’s just a wonderful, wonderful thing. It’s totally worth the loss of a significant chunk of our counter space. (In this apartment, we don’t have a lot of counter space.) Not only does the mixer allow us to avoid the sore-arm syndrome that comes with using a hand-held mixer for more than two or three minutes at a time, but it allowsDown the rabbit hole….

Advice from my life that will be useless to anyone else out there, unless they’re actually living my life: Putting four pairs of overalls in the tumble dryer at the same time doesn’t really help in the “quiet” department of apartment building life. (Usually I split ’em up over several loads, but tonight I’m only doing one load, so I figured I’d wash ’em all at once. Bad idea, that. All that metal banging around in there? In general I’m on the computer a lot less this time of year, so fewer links than normal between now and January. But now: :: Then shall the world tremble before our assembled might! Arr! (An anthology of stories involving piracy on the high seas? Wow!) :: Fruitcakes are the definition of baked goods people buy to give away. Adulteration happened. At the Lake Originally uploaded by sarah smile = ). I found this lovely photo the other day, quite by accident. There’s a clan that’s got the right idea! Denim workwear aside, can any photography experts out there tell me what that “fading to black around the edges” effect is called? I might like to try it on my own photo editing software. I don’t use Photoshop, though; I use ArcSoft’s PhotoStudio 2000, which came for free either with the computer when I bought it five years ago or with some other piece of equipment along the way. I got a hit today from a Google search for, of all things, how to wear overalls. Well, I guess they can appear confusing, so here’s how it goes: 1. Put right leg into right leg of overalls.2. Put left leg into left leg of overalls.3. Depending on your handedness, pull one of the straps over your shoulder.4. Fasten strap to bib.5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the other strap.6. I don’t know if any store like this exists in Buffalo, but it sure looks right up my alley — maybe if we could blend this concept with Borders?
