  1. Three quick thoughts:

    1. I'm honored you quote me so extensively and label me a "good guy." 🙂

    2. Scalzi seems to have really gotten full of himself in recent years. Yes, he's a great writer and has a keen mind for debate, but to proclaim his opinions unassailable because he used to be a film critic and wrote two books? Fie on that arrogance.

    3. Regarding the EU, I am frankly amazed that anyone ever seriously believed thought that upcoming movies — or any other product that bore the name Star Wars — would or even ought to reflect anything that took place in the novels. How many hundreds of Star Trek novels and comics have been produced since the early '70s? As far as I know, nothing in any of those stories has ever subsequently appeared on a theater or video screen, or been considered "canon." Why should the SW franchise be any different in that regard? Or perhaps I'm just better at compartmentalizing such things… after all, I still enjoy the old Marvel Star Wars comics, and we all know they've got no connection to anything!

  2. Certainly, your yeoman's work on the prequels makes your observations as legit as Scalzi's, even if I don't always understand it.
