Linkage time…. :: But Obama’s real problem is not Obama or his own policies; Obama’s real problem is that in Congress, his allies are incompetent cowards and his adversaries are smug dicks. I find it genuinely appalling a Democratic president has to prod his party members in the Senate, with a 59-seat majority, to stop acting like spooked children. The lot of them need to have a stick jammed up their ass, because it’s clear they don’t have much in the way of a spine. As for the Republicans, a recent reader was distressed when I said they were “hopped-upDown the rabbit hole….

Linkage…. :: What would Earl Warren, the California governor nominated as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by President Eisenhower (reportedly, to his lasting regret), and who served from 1953 to 1969, think of this new ruling? He would have opposed it vigorously. How do I know? I asked him. :: I cooked again today! It’s so weird — this isn’t like me at all. It’s a happy side effect of being pregnant again, I guess. :: We’ve all probably had the experience of reading a great SF novel and lending it to a friend—a literate friend who adores A.S.Down the rabbit hole….

Wow, we’re closing in on two hundred of these posts! Awesome! (BTW, with comment moderation being the rule here now, I’m reopening comments on these posts, with certain rules that are known to the persons who have need to know them.) :: That’s why Lott was offensive and Reid wasn’t: deeds, not words. Maybe one day the right will get that. But I’m not holding my breath, because really, all they’re interested in on this issue is juvenilia and playing gotcha, because that’s all they think it is. They don’t get it, and that’s just sad. :: The most depressingDown the rabbit hole….

And now we’re back in the swing with this regular feature. Enjoy…. :: This entire decade has been pretty much end-to-end suck. :: I once quit a job at a dollar movie theater when we were bought out by a larger chain that would require me to cut my hair to serve popcorn to the dregs of humanity. I wasn’t willing to alter my appearance that drastically for minimum wage, in what I now realize was an asinine statement about me expressing my individuality. Ah, youth. Linkage! Get your linkage here! :: When whatever industry it is that comes to dominate the American economy in the 21st Century the way the auto industry dominated the 20th comes to the realization that it is faced with cripling liability exposure as a result of a tort system rooted in the economics of the 19th Century we will either see change, or the collapse of that industry. It is only a question of time. :: So if I was as young, good looking, rich, famous, and talented as Tiger Woods, my role model wouldn’t be Tiger Wood. It wouldDown the rabbit hole….

Linkage for the week! :: Think how much more awesome you would be if you got to have Thanksgiving twice a year. That’s basically how I am all the time. :: I sense it’s about time to share some of my thoughts about television and movie critics, myself, and the past, present and future of my corner of the critics-on-TV adventure. (There is an increasing sense of “farewell” to all of Roger Ebert’s posts of late. I’m wondering if he is nearing his end.) :: Once she spent an entire lesson on one measure. One measure. Linkage…. :: We’re all born trying to pick up the thread.. :: This list means nothing, except to me. It’s a list of 50 movies that gave me pleasure over the past decade. I can say without reservation that I would watch any of these again. Would I say that all of them are great films, however great films are supposed to be defined? Probably not. But that’s nothing you need to worry about. Because it’s my list. :: This list means nothing, except to me. It’s a list of 50 movies that gave me pleasure over the past decade.Down the rabbit hole….

Linkage of the week…. :: What happened to the right wing swagger? When did they turn into such a bunch of scared wimps? When did they go from standing there in the rubble with George Bush and his megaphone to hiding under Dick Cheney’s desk cowering in fear? :: The funny thing about all of this is that no matter how bad all their ideas are, no matter how disastrous their governance has been, no matter how many horrible things they have done to the economy and this country, what really is killing the Republican party is that deep down,Down the rabbit hole….

Linkage of the week: :: Very few phrases fill me with dread and/or irritation as the response, “Oh, it’s EASY!” And it bugs me on two separate but related levels. :: I really do believe that there are blessings in ALL my experiences. Some float right up to the surface, like those breaching whales and leaping dolphins. Others are harder to identify. But if I look deep, they are always there. :: Walking into the San Antonio Airport this afternoon I noticed that there was a decal next to the door that said “Threat Level: Orange”.
