part sevenpart sixpart fivepart fourpart threepart twopart one Heavens, it’s been a while since I left off. A long while, actually. Oh well, sorry about that…even if there hasn’t exactly been a massive clamoring for me to continue this series. But really, if procrastination was an Olympic sport, I’d be Bruce Jenner. But now we’re back to it, so hopefully I can work up a bit of momentum. (Before I get back to my own business at hand, a brief word about something that’s been shooting ’round the Interweb of late: some guy’s 70-minute long rant-review of The Phantom Menace.Down the rabbit hole….

On New Year’s Eve, we decided to do something we’d never done before: we went to downtown Buffalo for the annual Ball Drop and the ringing in of the New Year. Now, we’ve watched the Ball Drop on teevee a lot over the years; here in Buffalo, Channel 7 (our ABC affiliate) airs split-screen coverage of Buffalo’s Ball Drop with the big one at Times Square, as part of New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Now, I can’t lie — judging by what we’ve seen on teevee, I wasn’t terribly enthusiastic about being downtown for our Ball Drop. For one thing, itDown the rabbit hole….

George Lucas appeared on The Daily Show the other day: The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon – Thurs 11p / 10c George Lucas www.thedailyshow.com Daily Show Full Episodes Political Humor Health Care Crisis Nice little interview, although Jon Stewart commits the usual error at the beginning by assuming that for some reason, Darth Vader is going to be spending lots of time on Tatooine after he becomes Emperor Palpatine’s right-hand man. Seems more logical to me that chasing down Leia at the beginning of A New Hope is the first time he even gets near his old stomping groundDown the rabbit hole….

The other day, my sister-in-law gave birth to her first child, a boy, who is now my first nephew. His name is “Jaxon”. Maybe it’s my curse as a lifelong (well, for all intents and purposes, anyway) Star Wars geek, but there’s a special set of Star Wars geeks whose memories would be piqued, maybe with fondness and maybe not, by the name “Jaxon”. Back in 1977, Marvel Comics got the rights to do the comics adaptation of Star Wars, and their adaptation ran in issues 1-6 of their SW comic. After that, however, the book kept running, telling storiesDown the rabbit hole….

John Scalzi rips into Star Wars on the basis of bad design. Sure, he’s cute, but the flaws in his design are obvious the first time he approaches anything but the shallowest of stairs. Also: He has jets, a periscope, a taser and oil canisters to make enforcer droids fall about in slapsticky fashion — and no voice synthesizer. Imagine that design conversation: “Yes, we can afford slapstick oil and tasers, but we’ll never get a 30-cent voice chip past accounting. That’s just madness.” And over at Slashdot, some other folks respond. A sample comment that I liked: That complaintDown the rabbit hole….

Someone at a science fiction convention in Australia caught up with Jake Lloyd, who ten years ago was appearing in theaters everywhere as the future Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker. Lots of people hated Lloyd in the movie, but I never did; I found him fine for the most part, and only think that he probably would have benefited from a director more gifted than George Lucas in handling children. (I’ve always believed that if ever Steven Spielberg was to have directed a Star Wars movie, TPM would have been the one.) Anyway, here’s Mr. Lloyd now, thinking back: Interestingly, heDown the rabbit hole….

I linked this over on Facebook, but not here, for some reason. Someone did a nifty Star Wars – Magnum PI mashup: It’s pretty amusing, but when I saw the following a day or two later, I actually became impressed with the original effort. It puts the two side-by-side: the original Magnum main titles on the left, and the Han Solo PI title sequence on the right. They really chose shots from Star Wars that match up, thematically and/or visually, with the shots in the Magnum titles! Color me impressed. I love it! Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

part sixpart fivepart fourpart threepart twopart one I suppose I should try to make some effort to update this series more often, huh? One entry a month isn’t getting it done. I’m only now approaching the halfway point in Attack of the Clones. Anyhow, Anakin and Padme have arrived on Naboo, met with the Queen and spent a night with Padme’s family (remember, I restored all of that material to the film). Next we turn our attention back to Obi Wan Kenobi, who is now arriving on the oceanic world of Kamino to investigate the source of the toxic dart.Down the rabbit hole….

part onepart twopart threepart fourpart five Yes, it’s been a while since we got into this; sorry about that. But now we’re back, so it’s time to return to Naboo and Coruscant for further examination of Attack of the Clones! When last we left our Star Warring heroes, Obi Wan Kenobi was starting to dig a bit into the mystery of the assassination attempts on Senator Amidala, while Anakin Skywalker had been sent as Padme Amidala’s bodyguard back to Naboo for safekeeping. That’s where we start! So Obi Wan Kenobi has learned that the toxic dart originated on a planetDown the rabbit hole….
