OK, we missed an installment last week, but never fear; we’re back and we’re traipsing the globe of Planet Google. But first, I’m shifting the ground rules here a bit: I’m going to deactivate comments on Unidentified Earth posts, so as not to spoil things for people who don’t get the answer in the first eight minutes, like that one guy who keeps shooting them down! (You know who you are!) Anyhow, answers should be e-mailed to me, and then with each new post, I’ll list the “winners”. (I enclose “winners” in quotation marks because, well, all you win isDown the rabbit hole….

Last week’s entry took us out of the United States, all the way to Gibraltar (which I didn’t realize was that heavily wooded). This week’s takes us to…well, you tell me! Where are we? Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

Last week’s turned out to be quite the stumper, didn’t it? I call that a win for me, since I had to hand out a couple of hints. Hoo-ray! So, let’s see how we do this week: Where are we? Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

[Updated below, with the solution!] Well, I’d love it if one of these would stump my readers for more than a day! Last week’s entry was the Little Big Horn National Monument, which when I stopped there on a cross-country move as a kid, was still called “Custer’s Last Stand”. Of course, naming it for the Battle of the Little Big Horn is better than Custer’s Last Stand, but if we were really going for historical accuracy in naming, we’d call it “Custer’s Last Monumental F***-Up”. Anyway, I have yet to come up with anything close to a genuine stumperDown the rabbit hole….

Time again to explore our world. Last week, in honor of the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars, our location was none other than Skywalker Ranch, where The Flanneled One resides. This week takes us to the thrilling location of…well, that’s for you all to identify! Where are we? Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

Time for this week’s edition of Unidentified Earth, wherein my readers identify satellite images of cool stuff on Earth. With astonishing speed, I might add. Last week’s was probably too easy; it was the Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This week’s is probably just as easy, but hey, you never know. Here it is: Well? Where are we? Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

Two people got last week’s inaugural Unidentified Earth photo right; it was Crater Lake, Oregon. I have very vague memories of a trip my family made to Crater Lake when I was no more than four years old, and I’ve always wanted to see it again. Anyhow, here is this week’s installment: This one is probably another easy entry, but you never know. Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

Here’s a new feature that I’m inaugurating, which will probably run on Thursdays: Unidentified Earth, wherein I’ll be ripping satellite images of notable locations on our planet, which you the Fine Readers will have to identify! Doesn’t that sound like fun! (You can tell that on Thursdays I’m groping for material.) Here’s our first locale: At what are we looking? Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….
