How much do you sing? Publicly? In a choir, or solo? Only at home amongst friends? Only in the car or the shower?

More often than people who don't know me well would ever know. My wife knows. She enjoys my voice.

Not only do I sing all the time, I do a variation on lyrics for situations. It's fun when others play along. Just yesterday, the Daughter and I adapted "I Don't Like Reggae," which she had never heard, to fit us, the cats, etc. "I don't like Stormy, oh, no, I love her, ooh, yeah." et al.

Never. When I was 10 years old I was told not to sing in church. We were doing some kind of Christmas thing and each Sunday school class was going to sing in front of the church. The Sunday school teacher kept trying coach me and finally gave up and told me to just move my lips. I guess that warped me for life because it's been many years since I've even felt like singing.

From 1966 to 1985 singing is all I really did because I had a music career as a singer-songwriter. Then, when the "business" broke my heart, I went into classical music, earning a degree in composition and conducting, and my singing days were over–by choice. I mean, I did not sing, even just to entertain myself. In 2009, however, writing my Beyond The Bridge series triggered something in me and I'm back to it. These days, it's just for myself, my family, and friends, which is exactly as I want it to be. Once again, I sing whilst driving, cooking, gardening, and in jam sessions at parties. My characters really did help me heal those old wounds.
