How cool is your cell phone? What all do you use it for?

    I don't have a cell phone because I have no one to call. It's the sad sad truth.

    I have a $10 cell phone.

    It does amazing things like rings when someone calls.

    My wife has a cell phone and as far as I can tell it is a device that your "friends" use to keep track of your whereabouts and impose on your time.

    That's why I don't want one.

    Relatively cool. It's a Samsung something or other. Not one of the very latest. I sometimes refer to it as the other half of my brain. I keep a shopping list on it. I also use it to look stuff up on the Internet anytime I'm curious about something. For example, when I'm watching a movie and see an actor I recognize and think, "Oh, who is that?" I can look it up on IMDB.com right then. If I'm out shopping I can look up product reviews.

    I also use it a lot for texting and once in a while, very rarely, I even use it to make a phone call.

    Finally got an iPhone last Christmas and I love it. Like Lynn, using it as a phone is pretty low on the list of things I do with it, but I love access to apps when I'm not near WiFi. Especially maps and AroundMe, which helps me find cheap gas close by.

    Not cool at all, and I have only used it to (a) call my students from the field and go "We were supposed to do research today, just where are you?" or (b) call for assistance when my car broke down.

    Most of the time I leave it turned off because I have an objection to people feeling like they can reach me all the time. I don't get paid enough for that.
