How do I get to Carnegie Hall?

I keep forgetting to link 17 proven methods for ruining your child’s music education that Scott Spiegelberg posted last week. For those of you who grew up taking music lessons of any sort — piano, flute, trumpet, trombone, drums — does any of this ring a bell? It does with me (at least a couple of them — my parents never came close to some of the meaner items here), and I was one of the lucky ones in that this kind of thing didn’t stunt me, musically.
