300+ bikes, originally uploaded by mtflickyou. I saw this photo on Flickr. I have no idea what the story is behind this, but it appears to be a bunch of people setting out on a long excursion involving bicycles. For some reason, they’re all wearing overalls. Bikes and overalls? Never thought to mix the two, but hey, why not? Cool! (BTW, looking a bit through this fellow’s photostream, it appears he’s been to a lot of amazing places. I love travel photography, and there’s some awfully nice shooting going on here.) Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….
Cooking with the Girl: Smell the food! Smell it!!, originally uploaded by Jaquandor. When cooking, you’re supposed to smell and taste your food. All the great ones say this. When smelling your food, you’re not supposed to just stick your nose over the pot; you’re supposed to lean down kinda-sorta close to the pot and wave the aromas of your food toward your nose. All the great ones say this, too. Oddly, the great ones are mum on the subject of whether or not you’re supposed to close your eyes and furrow your brow and look like you’re trying toDown the rabbit hole….
I’ve waxed poetic about the library in my town a bit over the years. Truth to tell, one of my favorite places in any town is the library, and whenever I’ve moved, finding the local library has always been something I do very early on. So the Orchard Park Library has been a major part of my life — our lives, I should say — for all of the seven years we’ve lived here. That photo, above, is the view I had a couple of weeks ago when I packed up the laptop and went to the library for anDown the rabbit hole….
I just know that you, Dear Readers, have always wondered what I look like when I’m driving. So here are some photos taken whilst driving recently. I’m a pretty paranoid driver, tending to assume the very worst about everyone else on the road. To my way of thinking, the only reasonable stance when driving is to adopt the belief that every other person on the road is a ne’er-do-well or, worse, a just plain malevolent soul looking to smash me with their vehicle. That leads me to looking like this: I don’t trust any of you. Nothing personal, but whenDown the rabbit hole….
I haven’t purchased any new overalls in some time, but one of the most recent pairs I acquired were these, via eBay: a nicely worn, vintage Hickory-striped pair by Lee. I don’t own much by way of Hickory-striped overalls — a couple of pairs of Dickies and one by Key was about it, before I got these. I’ve always been curious about the Hickory-striped cloth and its history. In my experience, Hickory-striped denim (I assume it’s denim, or maybe it’s twill) feels a bit lighter in weight than traditional denim, which makes the overalls a bit cooler in the wearing.Down the rabbit hole….
So, for years, I’ve wondered about the stuff in the plastic jars. I’d see them when shopping, and occasionally wonder if the stuff was good, but for some reason…I couldn’t summon up the urge to try it. I’m talking about… …Nutella. I don’t know why it took me years to get around to giving the stuff a shot. Maybe it’s the name? It sounds vaguely medicinal, and the jars with the type and the picture look like something out of the 1970s, and stuff out of the 1970s tends to not be all that great. The problem with this rationalizationDown the rabbit hole….

On New Year’s Eve, we decided to do something we’d never done before: we went to downtown Buffalo for the annual Ball Drop and the ringing in of the New Year. Now, we’ve watched the Ball Drop on teevee a lot over the years; here in Buffalo, Channel 7 (our ABC affiliate) airs split-screen coverage of Buffalo’s Ball Drop with the big one at Times Square, as part of New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Now, I can’t lie — judging by what we’ve seen on teevee, I wasn’t terribly enthusiastic about being downtown for our Ball Drop. For one thing, itDown the rabbit hole….
NOOOOOO!!!, originally uploaded by Jaquandor. As I noted recently, we got a Wii for Christmas. The Daughter has taken to it like a fish to water, while I’ve taken to it like…well, not so well. The game we play most often is Super Mario Brothers, on which The Daughter is progressing nicely, while I put poor Mario through debilitating death after death, grisly demise after demise, and sad fate after fate. Lots of times I can see Mario’s shuffling from the mortal coil coming a mile away as I scramble to avoid various pitfalls and nemeses, but then there areDown the rabbit hole….
