An act of scarvery

I suspect that “scarvery” isn’t a word. Oh well.

In a bit of retail therapy this week, I made my first ever Etsy purchase, from tartx.com. The item in question? A new scarf! Check it out:

I can’t wait for scarf weather to return! Actually, for this one, I don’t even need really cold weather, because it’s a much thinner material than my other scarves. I might wear this one on our annual trip to Ithaca in the fall…scarves and overalls are a way of life, folks!
I also made one other small purchase for the library decor, but I don’t have it on the wall yet, so that’s going to wait. It’s cool, though. Really.

Black Dickies overalls: The cool details

Years ago I was idly searching eBay and saw a pair of Dickies overalls in black. Finding overalls in black can be difficult, and the price was right, so I snapped them up. Unfortunately, they were of a kind of odd sizing, with a label indicating “XL” as opposed to the more traditional waist-and-inseam measurement, and these were just never quite there for me as an option.

Until now. I’ve been losing weight very slowly and very steadily over the last couple of years, with the result that I can at last get into these comfortably.

In black

Personally, I think they look kind of nifty.

And even more cool is that when I looked at them up close, I discovered that they’re not a pure black, like my black Carhartt’s. It turns out that these are actually a pair of Hickory-striped overalls, that the fine folks at Dickies dyed into blackness. You can see the stripes up close, which is really cool:

And I dig the black Dickies brand tag, which is red on every other pair of Dickies that I own (save two, on which the tag is white). These are seriously cool.

One perk of owning lots of overalls

Every year around Halloween, I enjoy going on Twitter and seeing all kinds of this going on:

I’m starting to feel like Dwight Schrute in that episode of The Office, when it’s Christmas so he finds out what the hot new toy is, buys every single one in Scranton, and then eBays them all for a tidy profit. Except I’m not selling my overalls, so it’s really not like that at all.

Anyway….
