And away we go: :: Which, of course, is exactly what Jonah does in the book: set up a fallacious opposing argument, demolish it, then turn around and assert exactly the same sort of argument from the opposite direction. (I’m really surprised; when I want intellectual honesty, the first place I look is Jonah Goldberg!) :: Someone said that the cost of THE GOLDEN COMPASS is more than all the revenue the WGA would receive if the AMPTP accepts our offer. And yet somehow our offer is irresponsible and would cause complete financial ruin to the industry. :: When weDown the rabbit hole….

Wow. Been a while, eh? :: You ever have a friend who is just… different when he/she drinks? I’m not saying that Jim Kirk has a problem, it’s just that I get uncomfortable around him when he drinks. So do my dogs. (The post is a couple of weeks old, but who cares?) :: And they’re all gone now. I remain. I remember. Do they? :: You know what they have on the cigarette package in Great Britain? In great big letters? (I have less and less sympathy for smokers these days, I have to admit.) :: In some perverseDown the rabbit hole….

Here we go: :: It’s amazing that after all this technological progress what the phone companies really want is to bring back the concept of the pay phone: Their vision is to give everyone their very own pay phone where the phone company can hit them up for loose change while the thing is in use. No matter how many gadgets they pack into the phone, aparently the part they miss the most is the one where the user inserts their coins. :: And it reminded me that every once in a while, a person comes into your world inDown the rabbit hole….

Eleven Squared! Woo-hoo! :: Anybody out there had any experience or have insights into ear candling? (Sounds like hooey to me.) :: Why Al Roker is in my dreams, I don’t know. (This man needs some stronger hallucinogenics. Salty language alert.) :: I did the fake Christmas tree for a few years. But every year when I put that thing together, I would end up with scratches up and down my arm, some kind of puncture wound, a tree that looked like a drunk person put it together and a near nervous breakdown. (Nobody told me that Michele of formerlyDown the rabbit hole….

One hundred twenty of these posts! That’s pretty…ummm…persistent? Anyway…. :: Colonize the Gobi desert, colonise the North Atlantic in winter — then get back to me about the rest of the solar system! (I might have linked this before, when it first ran, but I’m linking it again. He’s right, of course — but I still want spaceships and deep space rockets and all that jazz!) :: Fact is, at the end of the day, no matter how cool and stylish every Apple product is, I sort of resent that they all drive you to suckle exclusively at Steve Job’sDown the rabbit hole….

Dispensing with the pleasantries: :: When I was in the 5th grade, I got my very first handbag. :: A chilly morning and the crows are cawing overhead as they fly out for a day of adventure before coming home to roost and talk about it together. :: At any [rate] it seems clear to me that even the “optimistic” scenarios for Iraq now amount to promising to bear huge costs for a smallish chance at an unclear payoff. :: Aging and retirement hardly resemble the “golden years” one often sees and hears. :: The reason I wouldn’t call itDown the rabbit hole….

‘Tis time for the one hundred eighteenth installment. Wow. That’s a lot of these. It’s weird how blog-time works, isn’t it? I still feel like I’ve been doing Sentential Links for a relatively short time — and yet, when I started this series way back when, Star Wars Episode III hadn’t come out yet and my son was still alive. Wow. Anyway, here we go with this week’s linkage: :: Remember these props. The coffee and the Pepsi. They’re Chekhov’s gun, the one he said that if you bring it on stage in Act One has to go off inDown the rabbit hole….

Here we go. Or not. :: I suppose, then, that my strongest feelings about Into the Wild as a film are feelings of disappointment — disappointment at the lost potential to film the story as something unique and powerful, something that escapes received ideas and gestures; disappointment that the fleeting moments of real excellence couldn’t be extended. :: Leave it to Hollywood. One of the big questions about the strike is what affect it will have on the Oscar telecast? Of course, this is the same industry that when President Reagan was shot, one of the trades had this headline:Down the rabbit hole….

Here we go, folks! :: I have never lived in a community that was so obsessed with its past. (Good post on the lack of retail in downtown Buffalo. My suggestion for remedying this? Forget it. Don’t do anything specifically to bring retail downtown. Instead, work on getting businesses downtown, and getting people living downtown. Retail will follow; it always goes where people work and live.) :: Too many people around here have wanted instant gratification; in reality, building new business takes both nurturing and time. We are about to reach a tipping point where everything is starting to happenDown the rabbit hole….

Without ado of any kind: [Oh crud, by announcing that I was going to commence the linkage without ado of any kind, I actually employed some ado after all. Bummer. Oh well, I suppose we’ll have to wait for next week to have our first truly ado-free installment of Sentential Links. My apologies, and now, without any ado now, here are the links. I’ve carefully culled these, so I hope you’ll enjoy…oh bugger, there’s some more ado. Darn it all anyway! Blogging without ado turns out to be like McDonalds without deep fryers. How can it possibly work? Anyhow. NoDown the rabbit hole….
