OK! After my most recent round of hints, I think we’ve finally pegged UIs 49 and 50. Number 49 is the FAA Credit Union on Aviation Boulevard in Los Angeles, near LAX. A credit union, you ask? As an Unidentified Earth location? What gives? Well, this building also serves as the exterior for the Miami-Dade Crime Lab on CSI: Miami. When you watch that show and David Caruso is standing outside this cool-looking building with the curving exterior, putting on his sunglasses, he’s actually standing in California, outside a credit union. Installment 50 is the Lego statue of the LochDown the rabbit hole….

OK, the general consensus on UI’s 49 and 50 is that I may have taken too perverse a pleasure in coming up with tough ones. I’m still not giving up the game, but more hints: the building seen in UI 49 is used for exterior shots on one of my favorite network teevee programs. (But the building is not located in the city where the show takes place.) Identifying the show earns partial credit, but actually coming up with the name of the building (yes, you can use Google, and how would I know, anyway?) gets full credit. I dunno, folks, is there any interest in me continuing this series? I didn’t do one last week, but there are no guesses at all for the last two installments, UI 49 (for which one might want to follow some evidence) or UI 50 (for which one might require the services of an engineer with lots of, oh, imagination). Anyway, here’s one that really ought to be pretty easy: Where are we? Rot-13 the guesses…. Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

The fiftieth installment is at hand! Woo-hoo! And I can’t believe nobody pointed out that I forgot to do this feature last week. Oh well. Anyway, here we are. First, UI 49 remains Unidentified. Come on, folks; you don’t need a pair of sunglasses to figure this one out. And now, the new installment: Where are we? Rot-13 your guesses, please! Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

OK, I forgot to do this yesterday. Sorry! Anyway, there was a partially correct answer given last week, by Steph: it is a promontory on Lake Como in Italy, but we were looking for a bit more specific information than that. We were looking at the Villa del Balbianello, which was a shooting location in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and in Casino Royale. So, a hundred Quatloos to the winner. And now for this week’s puzzler, which is also a shooting location (for what, I wonder?): Where are we? Rot-13 your guesses, folks! Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

And now another formerly regular feature here at Byzantium’s Shores makes its triumphant return! I don’t think I ever bothered to officially reveal the location of UI 47, almost four months ago, but as I recall, it was guessed correctly very quickly as the bleachers in straightaway center field at Wrigley Field, in Chicago. Seeing as how the seats are completely empty, I can only assume that shot was taken in October, since the Cubs so rarely need to open up the stadium in October! [rimshot] Anyway, it’s been a few months, so I’m going to simply reset all QuatlooDown the rabbit hole….

Here we go. I think we’re all caught up now: UI 44 is the MI6 Headquarters in London, England; otherwise known as the Home Base of James Bond, 007. (Although they didn’t start showing this building in the movies until GoldenEye; prior to that, Bond’s part of the operation — if not MI6 in its entirety — operated out of some other building, using the corporate name “Universal Exports” as a front.) And UI 46? That’s the 18th green at Augusta National, where some prominent golf thing is held yearly. The Masterfuls, or something like that. It’s the one whereDown the rabbit hole….

No guesses on UI 44 yet? That’s odd, especially considering how many times the world has been saved by a guy who works here…. But UI 45 was pegged, as I thought it would be, as Land’s End in Cornwall, Great Britain. Five hundred Quatloos to the winner! And now for this week’s location. It’s immediately obvious what kind of location this is, so we’re looking for the most specific answer possible: Where are we? Rot-13 your guesses, folks. Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

OK, I think we’re at last caught up with all the still-Unidentified locations. It took a while, and many hints, but UI 40 was finally pegged as the Illinois State Police Station in Des Plaines, IL. What’s significant about this location is that, before the building was made into a police station, it was a high school: specifically, Maine North High School, which was where the movie The Breakfast Club was shot. That’s the exterior of the school where the kids are dropped off for their detentions. The library, however, didn’t exist: it was a set built in that school’sDown the rabbit hole….

Well, we now have three outstanding installments that as yet have zero guesses among them. I’m running out of coy hints for these, so it’s time for un-coy hints, I suppose. UI 40 was used as a location for a well-known movie from the 80s. UI 41 is famous for its proximity to a baseball stadium. UI 43, last week’s entry, is a famous place to buy food. OK, so there are the hints. Time for a new entry: Where are we? Rot-13 your guesses, if you have any…. Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….
