Well, the last two Unidentified Installments have been identified! UI 30 is the Frist Campus Center, the Princeton building that serves as the exterior for the hospital where Dr. Gregory House belligerently treats people and undermines coworkers on the show House MD. UI 32 is Haystack Rock, the defining feature of Oregon’s Cannon Beach. We went there many times when I was kid, and Haystack Rock is a truly stunning object. And yet, I never knew that at low tide, you can actually walk right up to the thing. I always assumed that it was forever looming a couple ofDown the rabbit hole….

So here we go again. I suppose I should just give up the game as to Unidentified Earth 29, which has stubbornly defied Identification. However, upon checking out the same location on another aerial image site, I’m wondering if my original image was taken before the monument in question was even constructed, because it now looks to me like the thing wasn’t even there. I’m talking about the major attraction of Monroe, OH: the Giant Jesus Statue. Here, for comparison, is the new photo I found: So I may have inadvertently played unfair on that one. However, I’m not givingDown the rabbit hole….

It seems we’re still falling behind! While Aaron has placed Unidentified Earth 28 as Granddad’s Bluff in La Crosse, Wisconsin (a place with as stunning a view of the Mississippi River Valley as you’ll find anywhere), the last two installments, 29 and 30, are still Unidentified. Now, granted, it’s very hard to make out in #29, but that there is a monument to a person in whose honor we celebrate not one but two major holidays on the Western calendar. The monument is specifically situated to loom over a major highway that runs just outside the image. As for #30,Down the rabbit hole….

OK, folks, I know I slacked last week, forgetting to put up an installment, but seeing as how the last two entries have gone unguessed at, much less identified, I don’t feel so bad. I’ll probably have to start giving out hints on those — such as to note that the earlier one is a regional attraction that no one would probably know unless they were familiar with, say, the upper reaches of the Mississippi River valley, or monuments to people who are honored with upcoming holidays. Yeesh. Anyhow, here’s the new installment: Where are we? Rot-13 your guesses, please!Down the rabbit hole….

Hmmmm. Well, the installment from two weeks ago has finally been identified; it’s Malibu Creek State Park in California, which is where the exterior shooting for M*A*S*H was done. That square object on the left of the road, toward the left of the picture, is actually a rusted-out jeep that was used on the show. Cool, eh? So, one hundred Quatloos to Aaron, who got the answer. (And yet, Jayme was on the right track in comments to another post….) Last week’s installment is still unidentified, however. Somebody’s got to call my bluff here! And now, this week’s entry: WhereDown the rabbit hole….

Keeping to my new schedule of posting installments of Unidentified Earth on Sundays, we have the next installment below. The previous installment is still Unidentified, however, and I’ve noticed that very few guesses have been incoming. Hmmmmm. Anyhow, here’s the new one: Where are we? Rot-13 your guesses, folks! All hail the triumphant return (!) of Unidentified Earth. I am now relocating the feature to Sundays as opposed to its former regular day, Thursdays. And since the last installment has already been identified, let’s move on to the new one, shall we? Where are we? Please remember to rot-13 your guesses, folks! Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

Well, Unidentified Earth 26 was identified a few times within a couple of hours as the Christ the Redeemer statue that looms high over Rio de Janeiro. Normally I’d wait to unveil the answer until Thursday (the normal day for Unidentified Earth), but, well look: Yes, the statue was struck by lightning. I feel like I should make some kind of joke here, but given the precedent God’s establishing here, I think I’ll just leave well enough alone. Wow. Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….

OK, folks, I know it’s been a while since this series was a going concern, but it’s time to start that up again. So we’ll start with finally identifying the last installment, which Jayme gamely placed as Vasquez Rocks, a famous natural rock formation in the Los Angeles area. How famous is it? Well, it’s appeared in a lot of movies and TV shows over the years. Go look: if you’ve watched any Star Trek at all, you’ve seen Vasquez Rocks. So anyway, now I need to come up with a new location. Problem is, I had a whole bunchDown the rabbit hole….

I’ve just realized that I have pretty much forgotten completely about my old series “Unidentified Earth”, and that the last installment, posted back in December, has remained Unidentified. Is there any interest in this series resuming, or is it one of those “fun while it lasted” things? What say you, Readership? Share This PostDown the rabbit hole….
