National Read a Qur’an Day

In response to the right-wing lunatic (is there another kind?) in Florida who plans to celebrate the 9-11-01 anniversary by burning as many copies of the Qur’an as he can, I will on that day post a photo of myself reading a copy of the Qur’an.

I don’t have to go far to get one, either. I keep it right on my shelf, next to the Bible.

  1. David says:

Does loaning my copy (earlier in the week) to a friend to read count? Having written that, I realize I can read the Quran online, which I will.

  2. Quince says:

Say what you want about the reverend but I am impressed with his ability to manipulate the press and manipulate the mosque project in NYC.

He backs down from a ludicrous position claiming an agreement was reached. Thus putting the Iman sp? in a position of having to defend his position when he never should have had to in the first place.

Furthermore his argument does an interesting job of trying to make the mosque/community center project appear to be as atrocious as a book burning in the eyes of those who may be on the fence about the project in NYC.

Finally by making his intentions known well ahead of time he goads his detractors into attacking based on emotion. He heightens the emotions of his adversarys by appearing as an uneducated southern rube. Then after their tirades are over they are forced to affirm his right to conduct the book burning in the first place. This is exactly how he played Keith Olberman.

    Machiavelli incarnate?

There' nothing "genius" about it — it's what the national media does when presented with whatever scandal-of-the-day the right wing creates, usually out of whole cloth. Our media exists to be manipulated by right-wingers. This creep is the latest in a long line of 'em.
