You mean, besides sex? Vote.
Besides have sex? Well, watch a meteor shower, see a comet, start a road trip… actually, I don't think that getting up at 3:30 is all that big a deal.
Well, I get up at 4:30 to do a daily workout. (seriously, it is the ONLY time of day I know I can have an uninterrupted hour, followed by enough time to shower and dress).
Getting up at 3:30, though? I mmmmmight do it for some really primo bird-watching that required travel. Or to go somewhere really cool but that required that early of a start.
I think it would be easier for me to voluntarily get up really early than to stay up really late. I cannot see staying awake until 3:30 am, but I can see getting up at that time…
Well, I'm normally up at 3:30 anyway, but if I just happened to go to bed at a normal hour, like a normal person, I guess I'd get up at 3:30 voluntarily (and not in the case of an emergency, an unexpected dog walk, etc.) if I had an early morning flight to catch. In the past, however, I just stayed up all night then took a nap on the plane.
I get up at 4:15 most weekdays (always Monday, Wednesday, Friday, some Tuesdays as well), so 3:30 isn't huge for me.
Things I have gotten up at 3:30 (or earlier) to do voluntarily: fishing, hiking, starting a trip (would rather leave very early than start the day before and arrive late in the evening), volunteering to serve the Dalai Lama (when I was 18; very cool), going to the gym.
Things I would consider getting up at 3:30 to do but have never actually done so: watch an astronomical event (e.g. meteor shower), pre-work lovemaking.
Seeing a sunrise of course but I am such a light sleeper that if you even mention 3:30 to me before I got to sleep I will get up at that exact time.
I would see certain performers, actors or shows that early. Book of Mormon for example. I want to see it, alas it was sold out as soon as tickets went on sale. I know, I tried. I would also get up that early to drive to location of said object of my affection. I need to keep an eye on what's going on in Toronto more often.
That's easy. I got up at 3:30 yesterday to donate platelets.
In no particular order:
Sex, fishing, a trip to the range, drive to Albany for a protest, fire up the smoker to make brisket, start the chowder kettle, stargazing, catch an early flight.
Hot air ballooning – or to catch a flight, or a train, or perhaps even a ship.
