I want the word back.

It sickens me that in this day and age, it’s people like the church mentioned in this news article are the ones who get to lay claim to the word family, and get to parade themselves around as champions of family values, even as they cheerfully spit on every family that doesn’t line up precisely into their tiny, small-minded little definition of the word, all the while with that same nauseating smile of false piety on their faces. You know that smile — it graces the lips of every single televangelizing cretin preacher on the Earth, and Jerry Falwell had that smile so ingrained on his face that I’m sure it’s still on his visage even now that he’s several months in the coffin.

These people are not pro-family. It’s just that simple. They’re for and against a lot of things, but family isn’t one of them.

I’m with you Kelly, this is totally inexcusable. Not even getting into what a person does or doesn’t think about the issue of homosexuality, the fact remains that WE ALL have areas of our lives where we miss the mark. Whether it’s the spiritual concept of “sin” or just the humanist concept of weakness, at one time or another every single one of us will screw up in big ways and small. To suggest any different is ludicrous.

For this faith group to dismiss their willingness to hold a memorial service because they did not approve of a certain aspect of his life is about the most non-Christian thing I’ve heard of in a long, long time.

Mean, ignorant people like that disgust me.

Oh, “family” has been a code-word for a loooooong time.

It even applies to those of us heteros who aren’t following the prescribed “path” – I’ve learned that “family friendly” is often a way of saying, “Ah-ah-ah, but not for you, Miss I-didn’t-land-a-man-and-start-breeding”

Hopefully there will be a group in Dallas who are willing to give the guy a proper funeral.
