Louis Armstrong was born this day, August 4, 121 years ago.
Here he is, teaming up with Bing Crosby in the film High Society, to explain jazz.
someday, I should actually watch the actual film instead of this clip and one other.
It’s literally THE PHILADELPHIA STORY with songs added in. The earlier film is probably better–the script works better, since it’s all there and doesn’t have parts removed to make room for songs, and the chemistry of the earlier cast is MUCH better–but HS is worth watching and is a sentimental favorite of mine (my father loved it). As always, it’s hard to watch Bing Crosby as the romantic lead when Frank Sinatra is *right there*. And it will always perplex and amaze that a song was hastily added in near the end of production when someone suddenly realized that they had Crosby and Sinatra in the same movie and didn’t have the two of them sharing a song!
