Linkage! Time fer linkage here! :: Pie is more meaningful than old world family recipes. (I just found this blog last week. It’s a blog by a woman who actually lives in the “American Gothic” house and likes overalls. And the title of the blog is The World Needs More Pie, which I always agree with. Overalls and pie? Awesome!) :: I guess I’m just trying to say that while GRACE is my passion, my mission, I’m not always filled with it myself. I can be as ungracious as the next person. :: Some of films most loved time travellersDown the rabbit hole….

The march of linkage carries on…. :: My introduction to Wagner’s great four-opera masterpiece, The Ring of the Nibelung, was probably the same as many in my generation: through Star Wars. :: I really don’t know what you do about the “taxes is theft” crowd, except possibly enter a gambling pool regarding just how long after their no-tax utopia comes true that their generally white, generally entitled, generally soft and pudgy asses are turned into thin strips of Objectivist Jerky by the sort of pitiless sociopath who is actually prepped and ready to live in the world that logically followsDown the rabbit hole….

Linkage…. :: Is it pathetic that somebody with nine times the median household income thinks of himself as just another average Joe, just another “working American”? Yes. Do I find it embarrassing that somebody whose income is in the top 1% of American households thinks that he is not rich? Yes. :: We have a bad habit of remembering Presidents as if they were or ought to have been genies. :: Star Wars, Muppets, and Disney: three things I’ve always known. :: His name was Mr. Crothers, and we called him “The Crud”, or just “Crud”. We called him thatDown the rabbit hole….

Linkage! :: The girls had no idea that across the country and around the world, Christians and Muslims are struggling so mightily. They made domino chains, played American Girl Dolls and schemed to attack the neighbor boys with water balloons. :: I had had a long day that started on the back of a horse, rounded out with a five-mile run, and ended with a bowl of pasta. I love hooves, heart rates, and carbs. :: Smoking bans and smoking sections in some buildings are reasonable. Smoking bans in bars are not. (As much as I love Lynn, I couldn’tDown the rabbit hole….

Linkage! Getcher linkage here! :: I decided to name my second Ameraucana rooster Upset, after the not-so-famous horse. :: Madame Bovary? Comedic gold. Lord Jim? A laugh riot. Anna Karenina, Moby-Dick—the first ten chapters of both are as funny as anything by Dickens or Jane Austen. (I’m reading Moby Dick now, one chapter a day — they’re really short chapters, so this will take a while — and I do keep getting the feeling that I’m missing a joke somewhere.) :: Ask the Maple Leafs the last time a team who willingly plays home games in Toronto won anything. (ThisDown the rabbit hole….

Linkage! Getcher linkage here! :: High Speed Rail is not only really cool – something supporters should certainly capitalize on – it’s also an extension of the greatness of America’s rail history. The railroad was a huge driver in our emerging economy, connecting a vast geographical distance and allowing commerce to flourish. High-speed rail will be a driving force in our future economy, and a necessary component of that economy. Unless, of course, it turns out that we actually do have an infinite supply of oil. :: I should be painting kitchen cabinets and measuring counter tops to get quotesDown the rabbit hole….

Linkage…. :: I don’t know why this is true but a cat simply cannot resist the pull of an empty box. (Heck, at Casa Jaquandor, the box doesn’t even have to be empty!) :: You should keep this in mind the next time you think the woman at the cash register at the grocery store is “too slow” or the guy at the parts store seems to be “not the sharpest knife in the drawer” or the girl behind the counter at the fast food restaurant fails to smile perkily enough. Two hundred sixteen of these posts. Here’s a weird factoid from my life: 216 is the only room number I remember from my high school building. For years it was a really big room that was only used for study halls, but around my junior year they needed another classroom or two so they put up a wall in the middle of Room 216, turning it into 216 and 217. I have no idea why that’s stuck in my head all these years, but I remember spending time being bored in Study Hall 216. Anyway, the linkage for the week!Down the rabbit hole….

Linkage! To return to an older MO of mine for these posts, all of these links are from blogs on Roger‘s blogroll. Enjoy! :: I don’t know if Apple Computer (through it’s authorised distributor, Renaissance) thought it was being clever or if they were just colossally inept, but the launch of the iPad in New Zealand was just plain stupid. Whichever it was, someone ought to be sacked over it. :: The new costume presents Diana as if she has been shopping the clearance racks at Hot Topic. Not to mention they had the nerve to bring back the horribleDown the rabbit hole….

Linkage…. :: Today, this argument would almost certainly carry the day. Even most liberals wouldn’t fight it. It’s as if we’ve been brainwashed against arguing that we should do something purely because it represents the way we think people deserve to be treated. We need graphs and charts and dueling models of economic distribution instead. (Good post by Kevin Drum that captures something that’s been bothering me for years about the American political debate — everything comes down to cost, or whether it makes money, or whatever. Everything. The context here is the increasingly common practice employers — read, businessesDown the rabbit hole….
